IT'S SO HOT AND DRY IN OKLAHOMA....

I got this off of a friends facebook page note. I thought it was worth sharing. :)

IT'S SO HOT AND DRY IN OKLAHOMA....

....the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground.

....the trees are whistling for the dogs.

....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

....hot water comes from both taps.

....you can make sun tea instantly.

....you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

....the temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little chilly.

....you discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car.

....you discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

....you actually burn your hand opening the car door.

....you break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30A.M.

....your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death"?

....you realize that asphalt has a liquid stage.

....the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter.

....the cows are giving evaporated milk.

....farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs

Larry Boy...

We got to meet Larry Boy today! Our LifeWay Christian Store had Larry Boy, from Veggie Tales, come and visit today. It was really cool! Ian was a little nervous at first and didn't really want to hug him or anything. But then Larry Boy wanted to give him five, and he was okay with that. After that he warmed up pretty good and was giving him hugs before we left! Owen didn't really know what was happening, but had fun with it. Here are a few pictures of our fun time and a quick video.

Really trusting...

Do you really trust God? I mean enough to say I won't complain for a whole entire day about what happens?

Well I am not there yet. I wish I could say that I was. What a huge stress relief that would be, not having to worry about anything! I realized this morning that one thing I can trust God with (well I CAN trust him with everything, but you get my point, right?) is the amount of sleep I get. This morning I woke up and did my Bible study and as I was praying both the boys woke up. At first I was going to let words of complaint leave my mouth, but then it hit me...He knows! God knows how much sleep I need and He knows that right at that very moment I was going to be good to go. So I just went and got them out of their rooms and continued on with my day. I tried to not even complain about it to my friend Misti and I didn't complain about it on facebook!

Of course nap time came and I took a nap while the boys did, only to be woken up again with Owen crying horribly. I find it interesting just how quickly we forget the things we learn. I am just like one of the Israelites coming out of Egypt with Moses. How quickly they forgot that God parted the red sea. Well I very quickly poured me a bowl of cereal and relied on that instead of God to get me through this time of being tired. Man, my golden calf may look different but it sure serves the same purpose.

I think my prayer for this week will be to truly "trust in the LORD with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

(I have to give props to my friend Ashleigh who tried to tell this to me one time. I listened but I guess I didn't hear.)

Happy birthday sweet Owen...

Today we celebrated our sweet Owen's first birthday! We had lunch at a local place called Johnnies Charcoal Oven. We were so blessed to have so many of our friends and family come and celebrate with us!

This year, after one failed try at making a veggie tales cake, we decided to order a cake. We have a friend from our church who does amazing things with cakes and cookies, so we decided to order from her. I was SO happy with the decorations that she did on the cake. I almost cried this morning when I saw how perfect it was! Now sometimes cakes can look pretty and just taste okay, however this cake not only looked great, but it tasted great too! And I am not the only one who felt that way! So many of the guests commented on how great it was too. I am kind of bummed though because she is going back to teaching so she won't be doing the cakes and cookies as much, which means if we don't get an order in at the right time then we may have to go else where. I really wish I had a lot of money and could just partner up with her in this business. You see she could do all the cooking and decorating, I could do PR and deliveries and deal with all the people. That would really be one of my dream jobs.

Oops, I guess I got off subject a little bit. Okay, back to Owen...

He loved the cake too! He just dove right into it! Unlike Ian, who even today took his pretty little time eating it, or should I say picking at it. So fun to see the way they are different and the ways they are similar!

Owen got lots of gifts today! Clothes and toys and more clothes and toys! We are so blessed! Here are some pictures of our big party!

Dare I use the title "Happy 4th of July"...

Today was such a great day. I just really enjoyed it. We had my mom and step dad over for breakfast and some morning play time! Here is our day in words and pictures...

Breakfast consisted of french toast with berry butter and bacon, recipe brought to you by none other than The Pioneer Woman. Let me tell you, the berry butter is SO good and SO worth making. Her recipe called for blackberries and raspberries, however when I went to the store they were out of blackberries and I am not a huge fan of raspberries. So I got blueberries and strawberries. The blueberry butter was the best tasting but not as pretty. The strawberry butter was good too and it looked pretty. I think that the blueberry won hands down, not that it was a competition. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures! Oh well, go check out PW and see what it should have looked like. :)

After breakfast we went outside while it was still "cool" (if you know anything about OK heat you know that I use that term loosely). We played with the "new" jeep (purchased at a garage sale), the new pool (Nana and Papa got it for Owen for his birthday). It was so much fun! Here are some pictures...
