Pinterest inspired craft...

A while back I started buying things to do a picture frame craft. Of course, in true Jessica manner, I didn't do it. So this weekend I finally did it! I am so excited. I personally think it is pretty cute and I can't wait to get them on the wall with pictures in them!

Here is a picture of just a few of them...
I am going to take our family picture each month and put it in the frame with the month it was taken in. That way we can see how our family changes through out the year!

I think overall this craft cost about $15. The frames I got at Wal-Mart for $1 and the month stickers were $6.99 at Hobby Lobby, but I waited till scrapbook stuff was on sale for 50% off. I am even considering making a giant wall clock out of this! I saw this idea on another blog. Not sure if I will go that far, but I do at least want to hang them up and see our family as it changes!

Menus...

Over the past month Justin and I have been making menus. We decided that it would help us save money and eat better. I do believe it has done both!  And to my surprise it has encouraged Ian to try new things! He helps us make them menus each week so he is aware of what we are going to have and he has a say in it.

Here is an example of a few of our menus that we have done.

Menu from the week of April 29, 2012:
Monday - mac n' cheese (animal shapes), turkey sausage (called them hot dogs for Ian's sake), veggie or fruit
Tuesday - sandwiches and fruit
Wednesday - grilled sliders and sweet potato fries
Thursday - Pancakes and fruit
Friday - home made pizza
Saturday and Sunday - left overs

Menu from the week of May 27, 2012:
Monday - grilled hot dogs and fruit
Tuesday - quesadillas
Wednesday - grilled chicken, rice and zucchini
Thursday - pancakes with fruit
Friday - sandwiches with sweet potato fries
Saturday and Sunday - left overs

As you can see we re-use many of the meals each week. I let Ian help me make many of these so that he has more of a reason to eat it. He loves home made pizza night because he can pick out his own toppings!

Do you make menus? If so what are some of your kid friendly meals?

Sorry

I want to apologize to everyone who has received multiple invites to be a reader of this blog. I guess I don't know how to add people with out it sending an invite to everyone who has already been added. I will work on this. Thanks for your patience though.

a new leaf, literally...

Ian ate salad last night...SALAD!!! My picky eater seems to be getting more adventurous as of late and I couldn't be more excited!

We did our pizza night again last night and Ian put black olives on his pizza! I just can't believe that his is eating so many new things. I think it partly has to do with him helping us plan the menu each week. At least that is when it started, so I am saying there is a correlation there. :)

going private...

I think I will be going private on this blog. I saw a very disturbing thing while looking at my blogger stats. If you would like to have me add you as a reader of this blog let me know. If I don't know you, you are still invited to read, I just may do a little googling on you before I add you. I don't want to add the person who found my blog because they searched for something they shouldn't have. Turning something innocent into something I have to hide just irritates me to no end!

Hats in church...

Today I found myself criticizing a young man, probably college age, because he was wearing a baseball hat in the sanctuary at church. You see I was raised that you don't do that. It was disrespectful.  I just kept thinking "kids these days".

Not only does that just make me old for thinking "kids these days", but it is also wrong.  I don't recall the Bible saying anything about thou shalt not wear a ball cap in the sanctuary of thy church.

I think it is this kind of attitude that keeps people away from the church. I am so excited to be changing my attitude! I am sure I will still have times where I think "kids these days", but I hope that God convicts me like he did today!

Pizza night...

Tonight we did semi homemade pizza! We bought the crust and all the toppings and cooked them ourselves.  Ian even helped me with them! I will let you guess which one is the one he made (um, note the single pickle). We had fun and enjoyed eating them!  I hope we will get to do this more often!
